ABOUT THE DANCING DRUM SIGNATURE SERIES DRUMS
Djembe and Djun-Djun drums developed hundreds of years ago in a region of West Africa that encompasses the countries of Mali, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso. While the exact origins of these drums are mysterious, we know that traditionally they are played together for many special occasions including weddings, baptisms, ceremonies, holidays, festivals, and parties. The mission of these drums is to call people together in fellowship, healing, and celebration.
Outside Africa, djembe and djun-djun drums have become ubiquitous in drum circles and classrooms all around the world. In collaboration with Tycoon Percussion, Dancing Drum has designed the finest staved djembes and djun-djuns on the market today at affordable prices, using traditional shell shapes, high-quality drum skins, non-stretch rope, and sustainably harvested materials.
Traditional Shell Shapes
The Dancing Drum Signature Series Drums have been designed with a traditional shell shape modeled after the drums of Guinea, West Africa. The djembes feature a large bowl with angled sides, tapering down to a narrow waist, and widening to the base. Through compression of the sound in the bowl and amplification through the base, this shape achieves the optimal bass, tone, and slap sounds that will please any drummer, from beginner to professional.
The Dancing Drum Djun-Djuns are a traditional cylindrical shape, capped on either end by natural cowhide. These drums can be played in singles or in sets of two or three. All of the djembe and djun-djun shells are extremely durable and built to withstand years of use.

BASIC RULES OF DRUM MAINTENANCE
- Don't drop, bounce, or bang your drum around like a toy. It's not a toy.
- Don't play it in the rain.
- Do not leave your drum in a hot car or in extreme hot or cold temperature conditions. This can pop the skin.
- Never use lotion, oil, or lubricant of any kind on the drumhead.
- Remove all rings, watches, or other jewelry from your hands before playing.
- Avoid tightening the tuning ropes too fast, too soon; it is better to take a gradual approach, adding a few diamonds at a time. Tuning your drum too quickly can break the head.
- If you baggage-check your drum when flying make sure it's very well padded, especially the drumhead.
- If you need to clean the skin on your drum, you can use a damp (not wet) sponge, or a small, individually packaged handi-wipe. Handi-wipes also have anti-microbial qualities, which can be good for disinfecting if your hand drums are used by many different people.
