FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS
What
kind of drums does Dancing Drum use?
We use many different types of percussion instruments, but for
most of our programs participants play Dancing
Drum Signature Series Djembe and Djun-Djun drums.
Since
the spring of 2007, we have been proud to say that the drums
we use in our school programs and performances are not contributing
to the enormous problem of deforestation in West Africa, where
most djembe and djun-djun drums are made from old growth
wood taken from poorly managed forests.
Is Dancing Drum a non-profit 501(c)3
organization?
Dancing Drum itself is not a non-profit, but we are in a partnership
with a great 501(c)3 organization called the Children's Creative
Project, which allows us to write grants and accept donations
to support some of our youth programs. We are grateful to the
following foundations for their support: the Santa Barbara County
Arts Commission, the Hutton Foundation, Karuna Foundation, Target,
Profant Foundation, and an anonymous donor.
What are your rates?
Please contact us to discuss your specific requests.
Where can
I get a copy of the rap lyrics and
music for the "Drumming Up
Character" program?
We will be releasing a school package
this spring with a book and CD/DVD. To learn more,
visit our publications
page.
Will you travel outside
the Santa Barbara area?
Yes! We will travel just about anywhere with our drums.
In 2007 and '08 we're scheduled throughout California, and in
Washington, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, and Germany. Please contact
us to
arrange a Dancing Drum program at your site.
