What kind of drums does Dancing Drum use?
We use many different types of percussion instruments, but for most of our programs we play Dancing Drum Signature Series Djembe and Djun-Djun drums.

 

 

Do I need to provide drums for a Dancing Drum program at my site?
In early every case, we bring everything we need to conduct programs at your site. We may ask you to provide some chairs and an outlet to plug in our sound system.

 

What are your rates?

Do you accept school purchase orders?

Where can I buy Dancing Drum Publications?

All materials are available at Dancing Drum's online store. West Music also carries a full line of Dancing Drum products. In Europe, contact Musique Egele for our books.

 

Will you travel to my area?
Yes! We travel 6-8 months out of the year, and chances are we will be somewhere nearby. If we don't have any programs scheduled in your area, let us know you're interested and we can add some dates to the calendar.

 

 

Where do djembes and djun-djuns come from traditionally?
Djembe and Djun-Djun drums developed hundreds of years ago in a region of West Africa that encompasses the countries of Mali, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso. While the exact origins of these drums are mysterious, we know that traditionally they are played together for many special occasions including weddings, baptisms, ceremonies, holidays, festivals, and parties. Djembe is also known as the "unity drum," and it's purpose is to call people together in fellowship, healing, and celebration. Outside Africa, djembe and djun-djun drums have become ubiquitous in drum circles and classrooms all around the world.

 

 

Where do the Dancing Drum Signature Series drums come from?

In collaboration with Tycoon Percussion, Dancing Drum has designed the finest staved djembes and djun-djuns on the market today, using traditional shell shapes, high-quality drum skins, non-stretch rope, and sustainably harvested materials. The Dancing Drum Signature Series drums are made in Bangkok, Thailand, by Tycoon Percussion's highly skilled team of craftspeople. The drums are distributed worldwide.

 

Some basic rules of drum maintenance and care:
- Keep your drum dry. If it becomes wet, allow it to dry in a warm place before storing it in a carrying case.
- Do not leave your drum in a hot car or in extreme hot or cold temperature conditions. Dramatic temperatures can cause the drum head to split.
- Never use lotion, oil, or lubricant of any kind on the drumhead.

- Never hit a djembe with sticks. This can split the skin. Play sticks on djun-djuns instead.
- Remove all rings, watches, or other jewelry from your hands before playing.
- Avoid tightening the tuning ropes too fast, too soon; it is better to add a few diamonds at a time so the drum head has a chance to stretch gradually.
- If you baggage-check your drum when flying make sure it's very well padded, especially the drum head.
- If you need to clean the skin on your drum, you can use a damp (not wet) sponge, or an anti-microbial handiwipe.

- If you are transporting your drum, use a carrying case designed for the shape of your drum.

- Treat your drum with respect and care, and it will last for many years of playing.

International Orders
International customers must place an order via phone, fax, or email, since online shipping is calculated for the USA only.


Shipping
Orders shipped in the continental U.S. normally arrive in 4-6 business days. In the unlikely event that an item is out of stock, we will fill your order in the most timely manner possible, within 2-6 weeks.


Sales Tax
Out of state customers will not be charged sales tax. Any sales tax due on out of state transactions are the responsibility of the purchaser.

 

Tax Exemption
If your school or organization is tax-exempt, please send us a copy of your tax exempt certificate. Your information will be kept on file for future purchases.

Returns
If you are not satisfied with a product you purchased from Dancing Drum, you may return it by following the return instructions listed below:

To receive a refund or credit, your purchase must be returned with shipping pre-paid, in "as new" condition, in original box and packaging, with all inserts and accessories. Any variance from these conditions could result in delay or forfeiture of your refund.

 

Refunds on purchases made with a credit card will be credited to the same card used at the time of sale. Shipping charges will not be refunded. Credits are issued only after receipt and inspection of returned goods.
