This Adinkra symbol shows two crocodiles that share one stomach. It is a reminder that, despite our differences, we all must share the same world and learn to live together in peace. It represents the character of CITIZENSHIP.

Thank you to all who attended the 1st annual Santa Barbara Drum Day!
Over 300 people of all ages and backgrounds played in an amazing drum circle on the 1st annual Santa Barbara Drum Day! The sprung dance floor of the Carrillo Rec Center Ballroom bounced up and down to the beat of the drums, and our special guest Luis Conte wowed the crowd with his conga chops!
Thanks to everyone who contributed to raising funds for a drum package for G.W. Carver School in New Orleans' Recovery School District. With your help, we were able to deliver a 24-student drum and percussion package for the school to keep!

Drum Day for Youth was also a huge success, with students from 5 schools in attendance, and many families, teachers, and administrators there to support the student drum ensembles. Each school had a turn on the big stage, and every group played an energetic set of rhythms from around the world, with a few original arrangements as well.

President Barack Obama makes a
campaign stop at G.W. Carver Three years after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, 9th Ward residents are still working to rebuild their lives, and schools are struggling to provide provide a level of education and opportunity on par with the rest of the country. School funding has gone towards providing basic necessities like new school buildings, desks, and textbooks, while arts and music programs have suffered from low priority and lack of financial support.
This spring, Dancing Drum will be visiting G.W. Carver Elementary School on New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward, Recovery School District, for a week-long artist-in-residency program funded by the Percussive Arts Society and Zildjian Family Opportunity Fund. We hope that the school can continue drumming after we leave, but with no drums or percussion on site, they'll need our help to fund a purchase of instruments. This is a gift that will benefit many hundreds of children for years to come.
