ABOUT LINDSAY RUST Lindsay Rust is a multi-talented artist who has been working professionally since her teenage years. She is Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Dancing Drum. Lindsay has worked as a writer, illustrator, graphic designer, photographer, booking agent, tour manager, and theatrical mask-maker. Her mask work has been exhibited nationally and featured on the Discovery Channel and onstage by Dancing Drum and Boxtales Theatre Company. She shares her knowledge of masks through mask-making workshops in schools and at the Dancing Drum Rhythm & Art Center. Lindsay is currently working on a mask-making book for teachers, titled "Faces of Culture: Masks & Drums of the World". Lindsay has been teaching and performing drumming and dance with Dancing Drum since 2002. She has traveled to many countries to study drumming, percussion, dance, and visual art traditions, including Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Thailand, Guatemala, and Belize. Lindsay received dual degrees in Anthropology and Art Theory and Practice from Northwestern University. She continued her multi-cultural arts studies while serving 2 years in the Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa, where she apprenticed to master silversmiths and batik artists at Niger’s National Museum. She designed and painted a prominent mural featured at Niger’s only wildlife park, Parc W. While living in Niger, Lindsay learned to speak Songhai-Djerma fluently and French functionally. Upon returning to the United States, she worked for several years as Mamar Kassey's US representative, booking and managing extensive tours through North American performing arts venues and world music festivals.
